English Learners

Our EL Program Model at Woodmoor is a combination of additional time and in-class support.  We offer:

  1. Morning Program
  2. Lunch Bunch
  3. In-class support from an EL certificated teacher or para-educator (occurs during independent reading, writing, and/or math).

We test our incoming EL Kindergarten students in the spring before they start school and then conduct EL home visits in the summer to sign students up for our EL Morning Program.

For district EL information, please see below.

English Learner services, in combination with general education, provides students (K-12) with linguistic development accessing grade level academic content as they acquire English language proficiency. English Learner students receive appropriately differentiated levels of direct services based on their language proficiency and grade level.

Annual English Language Assessments

Students who qualify for services in Northshore’s English Learner (EL) program will soon take the annual English Language Proficiency Assessment for the 21st Century (ELPA 21) or the WIDA Alternate Access Assessment for students that qualify based on their IEP. The State of Washington requires that students who are eligible for EL services take an assessment yearly to measure students’ continuing progress in reading, writing, speaking, and listening in English. This includes students who are eligible but whose parents have refused services. Parents may still opt-out of services for the next school year if they wish.

ELPA21 & WIDA testing will take place in-person and at school between March 22, 2021 and June 4, 2021. Due to the circumstances of hybrid and virtual learning this year, special testing schedules will be developed for testing your student. You will receive more information about the testing schedule from your school EL team.

By fall of 2021, you will receive your student’s score report.  Please contact the EL staff at your child’s school for more information or the EL program office at 425-408-7684.
